About This Event
Joseph Wooten, known as , "rdquo" -> Hands of Soul," is a three-time GRAMMY-nominated keyboardist, vocalist, composer, author, and humanitarian. For over three decades, he was the keyboardist and backing vocalist for the legendary Steve Miller Band, performing in more than 1,000 shows worldwide, including the Kennedy Center, the White House, and major festivals such as New Orleans Jazz Fest and Austin City Limits. His playing is featured on multiple Gold and Platinum recordings that helped define the band's iconic sound. A member of the renowned Wooten Brothers---alongside Victor Wooten, Roy , "rdquo" -> Futureman" Wooten, and Regi Wooten---Joseph has built a career that blends funk, soul, jazz, and socially conscious songwriting. His solo albums , "rdquo" -> Hands of Soul" and , "rdquo" -> Soul of Freedom" highlight his distinctive style and commitment to using music as a tool for storytelling and change. Wooten is also the author of , "rdquo" -> It All Matters: What I Believe, Words I Live By" and delivered the TEDx talk , "rdquo" -> Nothing Is Everything: It All Matters," focusing on themes of unity, empathy, and personal responsibility. With his wife, Stephanie, he co-founded the nonprofit I Matter! You Matter!, which supports veterans, provides scholarships, and empowers youth through music and community outreach. After 32 years as keyboardist and vocalist with the Steve Miller Band, three-time Grammy-nominated Joseph Wooten has entered a new chapter built on solo work, production, and advocacy. In 2026, he brought The Hands of Soul to the Nashville Jazz Workshop for a Black History Month tribute to funk and fusion, and he has been on the road with The Wooten Brothers all year, now in the middle of a North American tour. He is recording a new solo album and launching a podcast. On December 3, in celebration of his birthday and 10th wedding anniversary, he hosts a benefit for wounded veterans at the iconic 3rd and Lindsley, presented by his nonprofit, I Matter! You Matter! Whether performing on stage, recording in the studio, or speaking to audiences, Joseph Wooten continues his lifelong mission to create music that uplifts, challenges, and connects.
